Two Stoves With Coffee Brewing by Floyd Snyder
This is one of the rooms in a settlers cabin that is on display at The Kern River Valley Historical Society. It shows two different kinds of wood burning stoves inside a cabin build of rough lumber. I doubt that in reality the occupant would have to such extravagances and especially in the same room as they are shown here. Same thing with having two coffee pots.
You can also see an old flat iron that sitting on the side table of the stove. To really heat that thing up they would put it on the stove top. The removable handle, not shown, was made of wood when you ironed your clothes.
The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.
Barbara Snyder Barbara Snyder lives on the Central Coast of California. As a California native she has always felt the allure of the great variety of natural features offered in her home state. Born in Santa Maria, California, Victoria graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo as a history major, English minor. She earned her Master's degree in education from the same university and began a teaching career that has spanned over 3 decades. During that time photography has always been a part of her life and has been enhanced by the opportunities for summer travel and finding new subjects and interests to expand her photographic endeavors. .
